Steps to Configure Yahoo Account in Outlook Using IMAP
The instructions provided here are based on Outlook 2016 program.
1.) On your computer, open the Outlook program, click on the File option located on the top-left corner of the window, and select the Add Account option from the drop-down menu.
2.) Clicking on the Add Account option will open a new window on your screen from where you will need to select the Manual setup or additional server types option and click on the Next button. You will be directed to the next window.
3.) Next, you will need to click on the POP or IMAP option on the following screen and select the Next option. Doing so will direct you to the POP and IMAP Account Settings window.
4.) On the next screen, you will need to enter the information in the relevant fields as mentioned below:
User Information
- Enter Your name
- Enter your Yahoo Mail account’s email address.
Server Information
- Account Type: IMAP
- Incoming mail server: imap.mail.yahoo.com
- Outgoing mail server (SMTP): smtp.mail.yahoo.com
Logon Information
- User Name: Enter your username
- Password: Enter your account’s password
5.) Next, you will need to click on the More Settings option located at the lower-right corner of the same window. Then, go to the Outgoing server tab and select the checkbox next to these two options:
- My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication
- Use same settings as my incoming mail server
6.) After that, go to the Advanced tab and enter the following information in the relevant fields on your screen:
- Incoming server (IMAP): 993 or 143
- Incoming server encrypted connection: SSL
- Outgoing server (SMTP): 587 or 465
- Outgoing server encrypted connection: TLS or Auto
7.) Next, you will need to on the OK button and then on the Next button. This will open a Test Account Settings window on your screen where the test process for the configuration of your Gmail account on Outlook will be running. If the test process gets completed successfully, you will see a notification for the same on your screen.
8.) Finally, you will need to click on the Finish button. After that, you will be able to access your Yahoo Mail account on the Outlook email program.
